Net Promoter Score Tracker

Net Promoter Score Tracker is a free browser tool that calculates NPS with its margin of error and tracks it across survey waves.
In progress

The Net Promoter Score asks one question: how likely is it that you would recommend us to a friend or colleague, from 0 to 10? It is simple to collect and to track. The margin of error is often left out, and a small change between waves can then look like progress when it is noise.

Everything above runs in your browser and saves to this device only. Waves are saved on this device. Enter counts of promoters, passives, and detractors, or paste raw scores, and add each new wave.

How it works

Promoters score 9 or 10, passives 7 or 8, and detractors 0 to 6.

NPS = % promoters − % detractors, from −100 to +100
Standard error = √((pP + pD − (pP − pD)²) ÷ n) × 100
95% interval = NPS ± 1.96 × standard error

A change between two waves is flagged as larger than chance when it exceeds the combined margin of error of both waves, a conservative check.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Net Promoter Score?

Net Promoter Score (NPS) is a customer loyalty measure based on one question: how likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague, from 0 to 10? It runs from -100 to +100.

How is NPS calculated?

Subtract the percentage of detractors, who score 0 to 6, from the percentage of promoters, who score 9 or 10. Passives, who score 7 or 8, count in the total only.

What is the margin of error for NPS?

The margin of error for NPS depends on the sample size and the mix of answers. With 400 responses it is often about 7 to 9 points at 95% confidence. This tool calculates it for every survey wave.

What is a good NPS score?

A good NPS varies by industry. Compare with your own previous waves and with competitors measured the same way, since a general benchmark says little about your own market.

Is this Net Promoter Score Tracker free?

Yes. The Net Promoter Score Tracker is free and opens straight away in any modern browser, including on a phone. Survey waves are saved in your browser and stay on your device.
