Word Cloud Maker

Free word cloud maker for open-ended answers and pasted Zoom chats. Counts each answer or each word, draws the cloud and exports PNG, PDF or CSV.

A word cloud shows at a glance which words a group used most. It suits a quick classroom or workshop poll (“one word for how the stay made you feel”), the open-ended question at the end of a survey and a batch of guest reviews. Bigger and darker words were said more often, and the table under the cloud gives the exact counts.

Everything above runs in your browser, and what you paste stays on this device. Paste one answer per line, a chat saved from Zoom, or a column copied from Moodle, Microsoft Forms or a spreadsheet. The cloud redraws as you type.

How it works

The tool counts in one of two ways. Each answer as one term treats every line, or every item between commas, as one answer, so “cared for” stays together. This is the right choice for a one-word poll. Single words splits the answers into words and drops about 150 common English words such as “the”, “and” and “was”, which suits longer comments.

Count of a term = number of answers (or words) equal to it, after lower-casing and removing punctuation
Share = count ÷ all answers (or all words counted)
Font size grows with √count, so a term said four times is drawn twice the size of a term said once

Chat clean-up removes the time stamp, the sender’s name and “to Everyone” that Zoom writes in front of each message, in both the one-line and two-line formats of a saved chat. Only the messages are counted. The cloud places the most frequent terms first. A term too long for the space left stays in the table, and the note under the cloud gives how many were left out.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a word cloud from a Zoom chat?

In Zoom, open the chat, choose Save chat, then open the saved text file and paste all of it into the box. Keep "Remove chat times and names" ticked and only the messages are counted.

Should I count each answer or single words?

Count each answer when people were asked for one word or a short phrase, so two-word answers such as "cared for" stay together. Count single words for longer comments and reviews, where the common words are dropped.

Does the word cloud collect answers live from phones?

No. The tool runs in your browser alone, so the answers are gathered first in Zoom or Teams chat, a Moodle activity or a form, then pasted in.

Is a word cloud enough to analyse open-ended answers?

A word cloud is a quick first look. It counts words without their context, so "not relaxing" counts towards "relaxing" in single-word mode. Read the answers themselves, or code them into themes, before drawing conclusions.

Is this Word Cloud Maker free?

Yes. The Word Cloud Maker is free and opens straight away in any modern browser, including on a phone. Everything you paste is processed in your browser and stays on your device.
