UTM Campaign URL Builder

UTM Campaign URL Builder is a free browser tool that adds consistent UTM tracking parameters to campaign links, one at a time or in bulk.
In progress

UTM parameters tell an analytics tool where a visit came from. Five standard parameters record the source, medium, campaign, term, and content. The value of UTM tags depends on consistent naming: “Email” and “email” become two separate rows in a report.

Everything above runs in your browser and saves to this device only. Fill in the starred fields and copy the tagged link, or tag many links at once in bulk mode.

How it works

The builder adds the parameters to the URL’s query string, replacing any UTM parameters already there and keeping the others.

Lower-casing and a fixed space replacement keep names consistent. The tool warns when a medium falls outside the common set, since analytics default channel groups rely on those values.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are UTM parameters?

UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a URL that tell analytics tools where a visit came from. The five standard tags are utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content.

Which UTM parameters are required?

Source, medium, and campaign are required. Term records a paid search keyword, and content tells apart two links in the same email or advert.

What are UTM naming best practices?

Use lower case throughout, one separator for spaces, and a fixed list of mediums such as email, social, and cpc. Consistent names keep each channel in one row of the report.

Should I use UTM tags on internal links?

Leave internal links untagged. UTM tags on links between pages of your own site start a new session and overwrite the visit's original source.

Is this UTM Campaign URL Builder free?

Yes. The UTM Campaign URL Builder is free and opens straight away in any modern browser, including on a phone. Saved links stay on this device only.
